Expect congestion for hours at US 49 and Creosote Road as rain causes traffic nightmares

Morning commuters dealt with traffic congestion on several major roadways as rainy weather drenches the Coast.

There was an hour-long delay on Mississippi 605 near Dedeaux Road beginning at 8:30 a.m. after an incident, the Mississippi Department of Transportation reported.

An accident on Interstate 110 southbound near Bayview Avenue was also causing traffic congestion, MDOT said.

Both of these incidents have been cleared.

Drivers should, however, expect hours of delays Wednesday at U.S. 49 and Creosote Road where a downed traffic signal was reported. MDOT says delays could last for up to eight hours at that part of the highway in Gulfport.

At 10:20 a.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol of Biloxi also reported on Twitter multiple accidents on the Pascagoula River Bridge in Jackson County. They are advising drivers to take alternate routes as they work to clear the accidents.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Jackson County until noon as a storm system moves in.
