Where's the snow? Here's why Louisville escaped expected wintry blast

The Louisville area was spared a snowstorm that was forecast to leave about an inch of snow Wednesday night, easing concerns of slick spots for Thursday morning travelers.

The storm that put much of Kentucky under a winter weather advisory occurred further south of the Derby City, after a pocket of dry air absorbed whatever snowed that was going to fall, National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Neudorff said.

Additionally, the wind that came with the pocket dried up much of the precipitation caused by rain showers Wednesday, he said. While still urging drivers to take caution, he said most of the expected problems have been mitigated.

No weather-related accidents were reported as of Thursday morning, according to MetroSafe.

While there wasn't any snow, Thursday temperatures are still forecast to be below freezing. Most of the day is expected to be spent in the 20s, while the high is 30.

East of Louisville there was some snow — areas near Lexington saw 1-2 inches, Neudorff said.
