Suspects accused of killing Richmond woman in York County to face federal charges
YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — WAVY has learned why charges were withdrawn for four people accused of killing of a Richmond woman whose body was found back in May in York County.
The York-County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that federal investigators are taking over the case.
The suspects are being charged based on the RICO Act. Authorities say they and Mitchell were in Norfolk’s Mad Stone Bloods at the time of the homicide, and Mitchell was killed after she attempted to get out of the gang.
“It gives the federal government jurisdiction any time two-state or federal cases are performed in furtherance of gang activity. It is a violation of the federal RICO act,” said York-Poquoson Sheriff Ron Montgomery.
Earlier this year, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office arrested five people in connection to the death of Ty’osha Mitchell, whose body was found by a jogger on Old Williamsburg Road on May 6, 2023.
Montgomery said Donnisha Goodman and Acacia Jackson have been indicted on federal charges of kidnapping involving death.
Meanwhile, Montgomery said Hezekiah Carney and Jayquan Jones are in federal custody on different charges and could face federal charges in this case soon.
He added that Jamica Langely, the fifth suspect, is going back to Richmond. Montgomery said she was convicted in a separate homicide from 2020 and will serve time.
“None of these individuals are going to be released. They are either in federal or state custody, and going forward, at least four of them will be facing federal charges for the death of Ty’osha Mitchell,” he said.
