The Expendables 4 will be available to watch and own digitally from this Friday (October 13) in the US.

Starring Sylvester Stallone for the final time as the rogue squadron leader Barney Ross, alongside Jason Statham as Lee Christmas and Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson as the newest member of the Expendables, Easy Day, the action blockbuster is now available to pre-order via Amazon for $24.99.

Its UK release date is yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, in Digital Spy's two-star review, Ian Sandwell pointed out: "Even though the action genre has reached new heights with the likes of the John Wick and Mission: Impossible franchises, there's potentially still a space for a violent throwback action offering.

"Expend4bles (yes, that's really the on-screen title) aims to recapture that spirit, even down to bringing back the R rating after the bloodless third movie. The problem is that it takes until the final act to actually realise what made those movies work: a sense of fun."

The fourth Expendables won't necessarily be the last entry, either, with director Scott Waugh telling The Hollywood Reporter last month: "I think the door in any franchise is wide open when the fans want one.

"How many times have you and I heard that? They said the same thing on John Wick, but they're talking about John Wick 5 now. So if the fans want one, Hollywood's not shallow enough to deny the money possibility."

Waugh, who directed the Need for Speed movie in 2014, also shared of his muscular ensemble of heavyweight performers: "You just have to be confident in the story you're telling... You have to lead in a way that they trust you, and if you gain their trust, they'll do whatever you want".
