(WFRV) – Authorities in northern Wisconsin are reminding people to stay off the ice following a recent incident where an ATV and some fishing equipment fell through the ice.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, on February 8 it was reported that an ATV fell through the ice on Kilner Bay. Both the sheriff’s office and DNR wardens reportedly investigated the inside using drone equipment.
It was confirmed that an ATV was in the water. Due to the unstable ice conditions, the Superior Fire Department responded with an airboat.
Officials say that there was not a person in the water, and the owner of the ATV is safe. The Superior Fire Department did say that the owner lost an ‘expensive’ ATV and some fishing equipment.
It was also mentioned that there is no safe ice in the area right now and people are asked to stay off the ice until conditions improve.
No additional information was provided.
