Experience what it’s like to be on International Space Station at new Tacoma attraction

People seeking a realistic experience of what it is like to be in space don’t have to look much further than a new attraction coming to Tacoma.

THE INFINITE is a virtual-reality experience that allows 150 people at a time to visit the International Space Station without physically making the journey to space.

The opening of THE INFINITE is Wednesday, May 25, at the Tacoma Armory, 1001 S. Yakima Ave., with time slots starting at noon.

The attraction builds off of the virtual-reality series called “Space Explorers: The ISS Experience.” During the journey, people get a chance to experience the life of an astronaut on the ISS, which has been visited in real life by only 250 people.

In a statement provided by THE INFINITE, PHI studio founder and chief creative officer Phoebe Greenberg described the inspiration behind the outer space adventure.

“THE INFINITE experience is unlike any other exhibition examining space. We took the approach to expansively underpin the visitor experience with exclusive content shot in virtual reality by Felix & Paul Studios aboard the ISS and did not center the exhibition around artifacts of space exploration,” Greenberg said. “Using architectural design, free-roaming technology and commissioned artwork from Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda, we were inspired by humanity’s global fascination with space, integrating a poetic point of view of the astronauts.”

THE INFINITE provides many experiences, including a sense of weightlessness caused by the LED ceiling and mirrored floor. Installations by Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda also are on display.

Tickets are available now and can be purchased on theinfiniteexperience.world. Prices range from $15-$48. The experience is available for those 8 years old or older and is wheelchair accessible. The exploration lasts about 60 minutes and participants are required to wear a face mask.

THE INFINITE will be open for a limited time in Tacoma as part of a multi-year, international tour that runs until 2026. This is only the third location for THE INFINITE, behind locations in Houston and Montreal, Canada.

The experience is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is closed Tuesday.
