At the time the remains were discovered, KCPD said detectives believed the remains may have been there for several months.

A private company that uses forensic genetics genealogy was able to identify Cochran’s remains.

A spokesperson for KCPD said the case is considered a death investigation with no apparent signs of foul play.

However, the medical examiner has not completed a ruling on Cochran’s cause of death.
