"We are protesting against the arrest of the girl named Disha Ravi…”

Indian environmental activist Disha Ravi was detained by Delhi police on Saturday for allegedly creating an online campaign guide in support of farmers protesting India’s agricultural reforms.

She is being charged with sedition.

Here’s what we know about her.

She is 22 years old, a vegan, and a member of Greta Thunberg’s Fridays for Future movement.

In fact, Thunberg promoted the online document that has led to Davi’s arrest.

Delhi Police have alleged that the document authored by Ravi and two others contained plans for widening the protests and inciting violence.

Tens of thousands of farmers have been camped on the outskirts of Delhi since late last year, protesting against three farm laws enacted by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.

Ravi’s arrest has kicked off a firestorm of criticism against Modi’s government for using heavy-handed tactics to counter the farmer’s agitation.

"If the country is being called democratic, then it should behave like one, which is not happening right now. People are being judged for their opinions which shouldn't be done."

India's sedition law permits a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
