Explosion Near Atlanta 'Felt Like Earthquake', Says Local Resident

At least two people were injured when an explosion blew apart a section of an apartment complex in Dunwoody, a city in DeKalb County, north of Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday, September 12, authorities told local reporters at the scene.

The Dunwoody Police Department said it began receiving calls just before 1.30 pm about an explosion at the Arrive Perimeter residential complex off Asbury Square. Officers and crews from the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department and the Sandy Springs Fire Department responded, police said.

The blast was felt around the wider Dunwoody area, residents said.

This footage from a local resident shows people gathering to inspect the damage, and first responders carrying away a stretcher. It’s unclear if any person was on the stretcher. That resident, Instagram user @_jmcqueen, said the explosion “felt like an earthquake” despite her own apartment complex being “a good distance away.”

Channel 2 Action News said it was unclear if anyone was trapped in the rubble.

The Georgia Red Cross established a staging area at a local Hampton Inn to provide assistance to people affected by the explosion, police added.
