Explosion Rocks Apartment Complex North of Atlanta

At least two people were injured when an explosion blew apart a section of an apartment complex in Dunwoody, a city in DeKalb County, north of Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday, September 12, authorities told local media.

The Dunwoody Police Department said it began receiving calls just before 1.30 pm about an explosion at the Arrive Perimeter residential complex off Asbury Square. Officers and crews from the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department and the Sandy Springs Fire Department responded, police said.

Footage taken by Antwone Williams shows firefighters on the scene in the immediate aftermath of the blast. A pile of rubble is seen at the site of the explosion, and bricks, tree branches, and other debris are strewn across the surrounding area.

Williams warned people to check on anyone they know who lives in the complex, and later said he was “shaken up” after seeing an injured toddler.

Channel 2 Action News said it was unclear if anyone was trapped in the rubble.

The Georgia Red Cross established a staging area at a local Hampton Inn to provide assistance to people affected by the explosion, police added.
