Traffic on the Kerch Bridge, which links the Russian mainland with the Crimean Peninsula, has halted once again after explosions rocked central Crimea near the settlement of Oktiabrske, according to several Russian Telegram channels on July 22.

Russian occupation authorities have called on everyone who happened to be on the bridge and at checkpoints “to stay calm and follow the instructions of road security officers," one of the channels reported.

Crimea’s Russian-installed puppet head, Sergei Aksyonov, claimed the explosions were due to a drone attack on the peninsula.

"The enemy attempted to attack infrastructure facilities of Krasnohvardiiske [Kurman] District with UAVs," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

"Emergency Ministry employees are at the scene in order to eliminate possible consequences. All relevant services are working."

The bridge had previously closed on July 17, after an attack by Ukrainian naval drones, a source in the National Police told NV.

On July 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared the Kerch Bridge a legitimate military target for Ukraine.

“This is the route used to feed the war with ammunition and this is being done on a daily basis. And it militarizes the Crimean peninsula,” Zelenskyy bsaid.

Meanwhile, Russian social media users reported a fire erupting at an oil depot and airfield near Oktiabrske, located 43 km away from the peninsular capital of Simferopol.

Another fire broke out as a result of a blast at the Elevatorna railway station in Oktiabrske, a local told Ukraine's Crimea.Suspilne news.
