Expressions Pottery offers unique, local, handcrafted gift options

Expressioins Pottery is a 32-member pottery collective in East Granby, not far from Bradley International Airport.

Expressions Pottery Workshop was established as a co-op in 1972 by 25 potters, and has grown to provide a warm and friendly facility to local potters, including members, renters and students. Potters represent a range of experience from beginners to extremely accomplished.

Pottery methods practiced at the studio include high-fire stoneware, woodfire, and the lower fire primitive methods of raku and saggar.

“We have a studio space and a sales gallery associated with our studio,” said Juliet Clark, member and past president of the collective. The organization also holds classes.

Although many things have changed for Expressions due to COVID, like for so many other small businesses, the collective is in operation, and offers a unique shopping alternative for the holidays.

“One can find a beautiful selection of handmade bowls, mugs, platters, sculpture, jewelry, and lamps,” said Clarke. As a result of COVID, Expressions is also now offering a selection of handmade masks.

Expressions potters come from throughout the Farmington Valley, according to Clarke.

“We are artisans coming together for the good of the community,” she said. Giving back to their community, members participate in an annual Empty Bowls event for East Granby.

Expressions is located at 9 School Street in East Granby. The studio is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., until Christmas. Visit www.expressionspottery.com to learn more.
