Extending Oak Ridge school superintendent's contract on school board agenda Wednesday

The extension of Schools Superintendent Bruce Borchers' contract is on the agenda for Wednesday's local school board meeting. This meeting was previously scheduled for Monday, Jan. 22, but postponed because of weather and road conditions.

The Oak Ridge Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the School Administration Building, New York Avenue.

Borchers is currently serving his 11th year as leader of the Oak Ridge school system. His current contract would expire on June 17, 2027 unless it's extended further by a mutual agreement between the school board and Borchers. A four-year contract is the longest one the board can offer the superintendent under state law.

Also on the agenda is the recognition of teachers, teacher assistants, and principal of the year.
