‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ already in talks for US remake less than a month after its premiere

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” cable channel ENA's legal drama series currently captivating audiences in South Korea, may be getting a U.S. remake.

An inside source from the series’ production company A Story revealed to Korean media outlets that they are “reviewing a proposal for the series to be adapted to an American remake.”

The eight-episode series centers on Woo-young Woo, a rookie lawyer on the autism spectrum who finds brilliant ways to tackle each new case with every episode.

The drama, starring Park Eun-bin, Kang Tae-oh and Kang Ki-young, has risen to the No. 1 spot in South Korean media rankings since its premiere on June 29. The series also sits at the top of Netflix’s Top 10 Non-English Shows list, with almost 24 million hours having been streamed by viewers between July 4 and 10. The list also features several other Korean shows, with “Money Heist: Korea — Joint Economic Area,” “Alchemy of Souls” and “Ghost Doctor,” taking the third, fifth and eigth spots, respectively.

If confirmed, the remake of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” would be among several American adaptations of popular K-dramas that have already been announced, including “W: Two Worlds” (2016), “Trap” (2019) and “Crash Landing on You” (2020).

Korean American actor Daniel Dae Kim executive produces the successful American remake of “The Good Doctor,” the 2013 KBS drama about an autistic surgeon, with its sixth season set to premiere on ABC in October.
