The following is a roundup of recent happenings in Ashland University sports

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD

Ashland University's men's and women's track and field teams resumed their 2021-22 indoor season Jan. 14 at Hillsdale in a tri-meet with Findlay.

As they did, they sported two new uniform patches — "JUD" and "YEP" — in honor of former head coach Jud Logan, who passed away earlier in January.

"Our student-athletes are proud and excited to wear these patches," said Ashland Director of Athletics Al King. "It's a way to carry the spirit and enthusiasm of a tremendous leader and mentor into competition. As an athletic department and university, we will honor Jud Logan's legacy every way we can."

Logan passed away at age 62. He was in his 17th season as Ashland's head men's and women's track and field coach and his 28th year with the Eagle program as a whole, starting as an assistant coach.

AU athletes came away with five new and improved provisional marks for the 2022 NCAA Division II Championships during the tri-meet.

In the women's standings, Ashland ran away with the meet, recording 148.5 points to Hillsdale's 82.5 and Findlay's 76. On the men's side, Hillsdale's 114 team points were better than the Oilers' 106 and the Eagles' 102.

Senior Trevor Bassitt, in his first action of the season, hit a provisional mark in the men's 60-meter hurdle prelims in 7.78 seconds, then won the finals in 7.75 seconds. That time is tied for 15th in the world this indoor season.
