Eye on the Tropics: Invest 97L expected to bring heavy rain, mudslides to Central America
It’s late into hurricane season, but Severe Weather Center 9 continues to keep an eye on the tropics.

8 p.m. Update:
The disturbance is now down to 0% chance of organization for disturbance as it has moved over land.
Central America still has a chance for mudslides and flooding in some mountainous regions of Central America with Invest 97L.
6 p.m. Update:
November is still hurricane season, and water temperatures are still above 80 across the Caribbean, in much of the Gulf, and off the east Florida coast, so we’ll continue to monitor.
The one disturbance that we’ve been watching in the Caribbean will be moving over Central America, with a threat of heavy rain and mudslides.
But the chance of this organizing into a named system is getting pretty low now that it’s about to move over land.

Invest 97L is an area of low pressure in the western Caribbean.
Chances are slim that Invest 97L will develop into anything tropical, Meteorologist Kassandra Crimi said.
Crimi said, at last report, there was only a 10% likelihood of tropical development.

Regardless, Invest 97L is expected to bring pockets of heavy rain to portions of Central America, including Nicaragua and Honduras.
Flash flooding and mudslides are possible.
