My eyes!: Boston City Hall called world’s 4th ugliest building in new study

Shield your eyes, kids.

A new study has bestowed an unfortunate title on a Boston landmark. A new study by the architecture site, Buildworld, calls Boston City Hall the world’s fourth ugliest building.

“‘What the hell is that?’ These were the first words heard when the design for a new City Hall was revealed to the Mayor’s office in early 1962. A bold, brutalist re-imagining of Le Corbusier’s principles combined with the Renaissance Italian town hall, the building was striking and original — but doomed to date badly, especially as it is as gloomy inside as out,” writes Buildworld.

The only uglier structure in America is the J. Edgar Hoover Building in Washington D.C., according to the study.

Buildworld says they used a tool called HuggingFace to analyze the percentage of tweets that were negative about each building’s design.

The Top 10 list of Top 10 Eyesore Buildings in the world is as follows:

1. Scottish Parliament Building- Edinburgh, Scotland

2. J. Edgar Hoover Building- Washington D.C., USA

3. Newport Station- Newport, Wales

4. Boston City Hall- Boston, USA

5. Preston Train Station- Preston, England

6. Verizon Building- New York, USA

7. Ryugyong Hotel- Pyongyang, North Korea

8. Watergate complex- Washington D.C. USA

9. The Denver International Airport- Colorado, USA

10. Trump Tower- Las Vegas, USA
