Ukraine will be ready to deploy American F-16 fighter jets by spring 2024, according to the country’s Defense Minister, Oleksiy Reznikov, in comments he made to Bild on August 27.

"We anticipate this development to unfold next spring, as we have already initiated training courses for our pilots, engineers, and technicians," Reznikov said.

"The integration of this type of aircraft necessitates the establishment of suitable infrastructure, a process projected to take a minimum of six months."

The introduction of F-16 jets would mark a "significant breakthrough" for Ukraine, Reznikov said.

"Our objective is to put an end to Russia's aerial dominance, extending beyond the battlefield. The incorporation of F-16 aircraft into our anti-aircraft defense will elevate our aerial capabilities, reinforcing the protection of our airspace, including our urban centers,” Reznikov said.

“This shift represents a momentous leap for us."

F-16 fighter jets for Ukraine – Key details

In an earlier announcement, the Danish Ministry of Defense revealed that Ukrainian pilots would commence F-16 jettraining by the conclusion of August.

On August 20, both the Netherlands and Denmark pledged to donate a total of 61 aircraft to Ukraine—42 and 19 respectively.

Copenhagen aims to dispatch the initial six aircraft by the onset of the new year. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy affirmed that Denmark would facilitate the supply of its jets in a carefully phased manner, prioritizing diligence over haste.

On August 24, Norway solidified its commitment to provide F-16 jets. The initial batch of aircraft was anticipated to arrive in Ukraine by the end of this year.
