It's been over three years since Formula 1 raced in China. The COVID-19 pandemic canceled the event's last three runnings, and now it's canceled a fourth. F1 confirmed Friday the 2023 Chinese Grand Prix has been canceled among COVID-19 concerns.

"Formula 1 can confirm, following dialogue with the promoter and relevant authorities, that the 2023 Chinese Grand Prix will not take place due to the ongoing difficulties presented by the COVID-19 situation," the organizing body said in a release. "Formula 1 is assessing alternative options to replace the slot on the 2023 calendar and will provide an update on this in due course."

The Chinese Grand Prix was originally scheduled for April 16, though as Motorsport.com reports, that date was conditional on the nation easing its travel restrictions in time for the event. F1 is now seeking alternatives to replace the race, though it has yet to reveal any potential venues. With China off the calendar, there's now a four-week gap in the schedule between the April 2 Australian Grand Prix and the April 30 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Portimão, a track in Portugal that was used by F1 in 2020 and 2021, is a possible replacement track for the event, Motorsport.com reports. Though a decision is not expected to be made for at least a few weeks. We'll just have to wait and see what F1 comes up with.
