SINGAPORE — This year's Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix race has earned worldwide plaudits, winning several accolades and awards by numerous international media outlets.

This year's night race was the only F1 race which the dominant Red Bull Racing team failed to win, as Ferrari's Carlos Sainz took the chequered flag after a thrilling four-driver battle in the final laps at the Marina Bay street circuit

Sky Sports, ESPN, Britain’s Metro, and online racing news site WTF1 have named the Singapore GP as the "Best Race of 2023", while the renowned Motorsport Magazine has also nominated the night race for its annual awards.

"We are not saying this because it's the only one Red Bull didn't win, but it was genuinely a thriller to the end as Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton had a big four-way scrap for the lead in the closing stages," Sky Sports wrote in awarding its "Race of the Year" honour to the Singapore GP.

Recovery marshals earn FIA plaudits

Meanwhile, the Singapore GP's team of recovery marshals have also been recognised as the "Best Team of Officials’ by the International Automobile Federation (FIA). The award is conferred annually as one of the categories under the FIA Volunteers and Officials Awards, which celebrate the efforts of volunteer race officials across motorsports events around the world.

The recovery marshals were recognised for their teamwork and efficiency in carrying out 17 recoveries, including Lance Stroll’s dramatic Aston Martin crash, Esteban Ocon’s retirement due to his Alpine’s gearbox failure, and George Russell’s final lap crash in his Mercedes over the race weekend.

“I am delighted that our recovery team, which is made up of 50 volunteers from a myriad of different backgrounds, have been recognised for their hard work, personal sacrifices, and dedication with this award," said Janette Tan, Singapore GP's race operations director.

"Their success is a reflection of the wider teamwork and commitment of our 900-strong team of volunteer marshals... Around 90 per cent of them return as volunteers for every edition of the race, and I feel privileged to work with such a passionate team year after year."

Tickets for next year's Singapore GP - slated for 20 to 22 September - are already on sale on its official website. Early-bird tickets were sold out a month ahead of the end of the promotion.
