FAA outage impact at Daytona Beach International Airport: one flight delayed

As of about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Daytona Beach International Airport had seen one flight delay related to a computer glitch at the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA instituted a nationwide pause on departures, known as a ground stop, for part of the morning Wednesday but that order had been lifted by 9 a.m. ET.

More than 6,400 flights within, heading into, or out of the U.S. were delayed as of 11 a.m. ET, according to the flight-tracking website FlightAware, and more than 1,000 flights in the country were canceled. With 19,621 domestic flights scheduled on Monday, according to Cirium data, those numbers are almost certain to rise as airlines recover their operations.

The Daytona Beach flight, American Airlines flight No. 1152, had been scheduled to depart at 8:25 a.m., said Joanne Magley, airport manager over air service, marketing and customer experience. It departed at about 9:50 a.m. A Delta flight was able to depart at 6 a.m. from the airport.

Several arrivals were scheduled on Wednesday. Those flights were scheduled to arrive at 10:17 a.m., 12:31 p.m., and after 2 p.m., she said. Flight schedules are posted on the airport's website. The 10:17 a.m. flight, No. 1464, arrived at 10:26 a.m., according to Delta Air Lines.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University flight training, which uses the Daytona Beach airport, was not interrupted because they are not reliant on the FAA's system, Magley said.
