As of Monday 19th July, the majority of legal COVID-19 restrictions in England have been removed, but the wearing of masks is still recommended in some places.
As the country moves into step four of the easing of lockdown, the government is removing virus prevention measures as part of its coronavirus strategy, and is now transferring the responsibility for keeping themselves and others safe from infection onto individuals.
Face coverings will no longer be required by law, but the government has said that it "expects and recommends that people wear face coverings in crowded areas such as public transport".
If you live in London, you are still required to wear a face covering on all Transport for London (TfL) services - including the Tube, bus, tram, Docklands Light Railway, Overground and TfL Rail - for the entirety of your journey unless they are exempt, while other transport services also require masks to be worn.
Enforcement officers in London will be able to deny access or eject passengers who are found to not be complying with the mask requirement.
Certain other industries and businesses have also announced that they will still require face masks to be worn by staff, however this guidance will now vary store-to-store.
