About Face MD is skilled in tailoring to its clients' needs

Jul. 26—MANSFIELD — Carlos Roman comes from a family of cosmetologists.

Inspired by his grandmother, a former Willimantic hair salon owner, he decided to open an aesthetic treatment clinic in Mansfield.

In May, Roman opened About Face MD in Perkins Corner, drawing on nearly 20 years of experience as an aesthetician, which specializes in skin care.

The business tailors skin treatments to the clients and offers free, 15- minute consultations.

" Before we even do a treatment, we ask the right questions and we try to identify and discover the issues with the skin before we treat," said 29- year- old Roman, who grew up in Willimantic. " There's definitely a method to our madness, if you will."

The business is at 10 Higgins Highway, Site 11.

There are plans to have a ribbon- cutting at About Face MD in early August, though the exact date has not yet been determined.

Roman said there will be live demonstrations of some of the treatments, as well as a raffle, food and refreshments during the event.

There will also be promotions and discounts that day.

Treatments are available for acne, redness, wrinkles and more at the clinic.

Available services include: custom facials; microdermabrasion; hydrafacial; chemical peels; dermaplaning; lifts and tinst; eyelash extensions; waxing; botox; lip filler; dermal filler; eight- week acne boot camp; and non- invasive Brazilian buttocks lifts.

Prices range from $12 for a brow wax or chin wax to thousands of dollars for botox.

He said he has been very busy running the business, as well as his full- time job as a consultant who trains dermatologists and plastic surgeons about how to run a med spa.

" My full- time job is pretty demanding as well," Roman said.

This is Roman's second business.

In addition to About Face MD, he also owns Namor, which is named after his first name spelled backward.

Roman started the line, which includes serums, cleansers and moisturizers, in 2016 and sells his products at the clinic.

" Basically, the point of the line is to improve skin performance using naturals," he said.

Roman has an aesthetics license from Catherine Hinds Esthetic Institute in Woburn, Mass., which he received in 2008.

Before becoming a consultant, he worked for three of the top skin care companies in the country — PCA Skin, Glo Skin Beauty and Jan Marini Skin Research.

Roman currently freelances for those companies.

He has been interviewed as an industry expert on many different podcasts and participated in panel talks at conferences, including a conference at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York.
