Facelift on the way for Grovetown’s Liberty Park Community Center

GROVETOWN, Ga. (WJBF) – People in Grovetown can still enjoy Liberty Park, but not the community center. It closed Monday for renovations, bringing the nearly 20 year old facility into the next generation.

City of Grovetown Public Information Officer Jordan Johnson told NewsChannel 6,
“Some of that’s going to include updated audio visual technology in our conference rooms, a new floor and updated bathrooms and showers. We’re going to have better acoustics in there.”

Johnson said the $577,000 project comes from 2017 – 2022 sales tax dollars.

He added, “Fresh coat of paint, updated safety and security concerns. We’re bringing that facility from 2006 when it was built into the 21st Century now.”

The community center doubles as a place to escape the cold, but Johnson said right now there are no other warming centers in town. Work is expected to to move swiftly though, with a completion timeframe between three to four months.

“We want to give our folks a place where they can come and enjoy an event, enjoy the amenities that are offered and really be proud of the facilities in their city.”

Johnson said the special elections in both February and March will not impact voters. They will still be able to go to the center and cast a ballot.
