All about Ava

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

Right now I actually run a jewelry business (Fun Fashions for a Cause) and I also run a tennis coaching business. I love business and I want to study business in college and then pursue business management and maybe business consulting after college.

I hear you don't participate in social media. Why is that?

For me, I really value in-person interaction and in-person communication. I don't text or call very much. I'm more into being there, talking with people, feeling their energy. I don't feel the need to communicate with people via social media and I don't feel like I'm missing out on seeing anything.

If you had a plane ticket to travel anywhere you'd want to go, where would you go?

I really want to go to Thailand. I think the culture is unique. The art, the beaches, the animals, the natural beauty, food, everything.

What has been your favorite concert?

Lady Gaga. She is such an amazing performer. I really liked the dancers, the lights, her music, her singing, the different instruments. She was so impressive playing the piano. She is so multi-talented.

Playing for the Chaps

What has been your favorite tennis memory at Westlake?

In my freshman year we had a tournament in Waco. It was fun bonding with my teammates. We stayed up late talking. I got to know the players a lot better and connect with some of the seniors before they graduated.

What got you interested in competitive tennis?

The first private lesson coach I had was named Robert Trogolo in the middle of fourth grade. After taking lessons with him, I became very passionate about tennis and wanted to take it to the next level. I started USTA tournament after that.

If you could play on any court in the world, what would it be?

The courts at the French Open. I love watching the French Open, I love France. Having all those stands around (the courts) and being at the footsteps would be really cool.

So, have you been to France?

I have. I went four years ago with my younger cousins, my aunt and uncle, my grandparents and my immediate family. We stayed in an apartment for a few days. We toured the city. We went to museums, we went to the Gardens of Versailles, lots of different parks. I loved the whole vibe of France.

Have you ever seen tennis played in Europe?

About a summer after France, we traveled to Barcelona with my family. Then my mom and I traveled to Mallorca and I went to the Rafael Nadal Tennis Academy for a week.

Do you have any match-day rituals?

I have a photo album of my favorite quotes screen-shot. When I played USTA tournaments, I'd look at 100 quotes before the match. I'd visualize them and what they meant to me and how I can apply them to the match.

Dream dinner

If you could have dinner with four people in the history of the world, who would they be?

I would invite Serena, Oprah, Mother Teresa and Taylor Swift.

Mother Teresa and Taylor Swift is an interesting dynamic.

The conversation would be guided by me. Ever since I was little, I loved Taylor Swift. I remember thinking I'd do anything I could to get in contact with her. With Mother Teresa, I try to be philanthropic with my business by donating profits (to Zoe Empowers, a nonprofit that benefits orphaned youth). I think she's someone who could talk passionately about giving back and how that might inspire me to continue doing that.
