Faces off the Field: Danny Rodriguez, senior pitcher, Bowie

Tell me something about the first time you played organized baseball.

My first experience playing organized baseball was T-ball when I was around the age of 4 at Oak Hill. I was never any good growing up, but I always enjoyed playing some ball.

What has been your favorite baseball memory at Bowie?

My favorite high school baseball memory has to be last year's first playoff game at Westwood. The game was 14 innings long — basically two games within one.

Did this season feel different because you were a senior?

This season definitely had more of a sentimental tone to it because it is my last, but you just try to enjoy the little things and just have fun with my teammates that I've known my whole life.

For you, what is the hardest thing to do in baseball?

If you ask my teammates they would probably say my biggest struggle is staying healthy, but to me the biggest struggle is dealing with the mental portion of the game. You deal with so much failure sometimes it's just hard to forget and move on to the next pitch.

What do you plan to do after high school?

After high school I plan on attending St. Edward's, where I plan on majoring in communications and continuing my baseball career as a pitcher.

Bowie senior Danny Rodriguez, pitching against Westwood last year, will play baseball and study communications next year at St. Edward's University.

If you could have dinner with four people in the history of the world, who would they be?

I'll choose Tupac, Pedro Martinez, (the late ESPN sportscaster) Stuart Scott and (the late race car driver) Enzo Ferrari.

Why did you pick Stuart Scott?

I chose Stuart Scott because he was such an enticing personality and the way he would deliver sports was just so entertaining.

Tell me something people don't know about you.

One thing most people don't know about me is that I was born and raised in California then moved over to Austin.

What has been your favorite vacation?

Each year my family takes a vacation down to Guadalajara to visit family, but this past year we decided to make a little trip while down there to a local beach, and it was just such a relaxing and beautiful scene.

If you could attend any concert, whom would you see?

I would go see the (rapper) Bad Bunny concert. His concerts just seem entertaining, and he is my favorite artist.
