The claim: Video shows Rep. Doug Collins swearing about Biden

A video claiming to show Doug Collins, a former Republican congressman from Georgia, swearing about President Joe Biden is part of a larger social media trend where users share miscaptioned videos of American politicians.

"'Biden Lying Son Of A B----' Fed Up Rep. Collins SHUTS DOWN Pelosi, Schiff And Nadler in Congress (sic)," reads the caption of the video in an Oct. 9 Facebook post.

The video was viewed more than 100,000 times in four days.

But the claim is false. The video shows clips of the then-Georgia representative from the House impeachment hearing of former President Donald Trump in 2019.

USA TODAY reached out to the user who shared the claim for comment.

Video shows 2019 impeachment hearings

Collins does not swear when talking about Biden in the video. In fact, Biden is not mentioned at any point in the 16-minute video.

Instead, the video shows two clips from Trump's 2019 impeachment hearings. The first video is Collins' closing statement ahead of the House impeachment vote in 2019. The second video shows Collins' opening statement from the hearings.

Collins, a fierce defender of Trump through the impeachment process, was the top-ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee at the time.
