Fair board planning midsummer fundraiser

Feb. 12—The Crawford County Fair is looking at the possibility of a midsummer fundraiser at the fairgrounds.

Plans are still being formed, but the event would be July 5 and 6 with harness racing, a horse show, various vendors, and the possibility of a craft beer tent and a wine tent as well, according to Dean Maynard, president of the Crawford County Fair Board.

"We're looking into it," he said.

The fair board would have to get approval from the Crawford County Board of Commissioners as the county owns the fairgrounds.

The board operates separately as a self-sustaining entity. It doesn't pay rent to the county for its use of the fairgrounds for the county fair.

Alcohol isn't allowed on the fairgrounds when the fair is being held.

However, there have been several events held by groups that have leased the fairgrounds and obtained permission from the county to sell alcohol with restrictions. Those restrictions have included requiring proof of insurance and restricting sales to a designated area.
