Fair Lawn school district asks for community input for new superintendent search

The Fair Lawn school district is asking members of the community what qualities they’d like to see in a superintendent as it begins the search for a new leader.

The district is working with the Strategic Educational Advantage search firm to identify a superintendent to replace Nicholas Norcia, who is stepping down on July 23 to become superintendent at the Morris Hills Regional District in Morris County.

As part of the search, the district is asking community members to fill out a survey to provide their input. The survey, which was announced on the district’s website and takes about 10 minutes to complete, will run until June 15 at 6 p.m.

In addition to the survey, the school board will be hosting a forum where community members can give feedback on the experiences and characteristics they'd like to see in a new superintendent. It will be held on June 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Fair Lawn High School, said Board of Education President Ron Barbarulo.

Superintendent Nicholas Norcia will be resigning from Fair Lawn Public Schools effective July 23, 2023.

After getting the feedback and having the search firm do its work, Barbarulo was hopeful that the school board could begin interviewing candidates by the middle of July.

“The board is looking forward to working together to pick a new superintendent that’s going to best help Fair Lawn schools continue to grow and get better every day,” Barbarulo said. “We have to take care of the kids, since they are the future.”
