Fairfield Union senior Lauren Denny wants to follow her passion of art for career

RUSHVILLE − Fairfield Union High School's Outstanding Senior Lauren Denny is used to success since she's made the honor roll for most of her high school career.

She was also on the school's volleyball team for two years, the track team for four years and the swim team for two years.

Denny also enjoys art and painting, so she's taken a lot of art classes. Her grade point average is around 3.8. She said part of her doesn't know how she's been able to achieve success in the classroom along with partaking in her other activities.

"But I try my best to stay on top of things," Denny said. "I'm also good about working under pressure. So even if I've procrastinated a lot, I can usually get back on top of things pretty quickly."

She plans to study art this fall at either Ohio University or the Columbus College of Art and Design.

"I haven't quite decided yet because CCAD is one of my dream schools, but it's a lot of money to go there," Denny said. "I've gotten scholarships to go there, but it's still like kind of a lot. So I'm either going to the fine arts college at Ohio University or CCAD."

She wants to be an illustrator or graphic designer after graduating from college.

"I want to do something art related because it's my passion," Denny said. "It started out as a way to release stress and let my brain process emotion. Sort of just let my feelings go. Being able to make stuff really makes me happy. I guess that's always been what's drawn me to art."

She said incoming Fairfield Union freshmen should work as hard as they can, but not take things too seriously.

"Any bad grades or taking days off, it's not the end of the world," Denny said. "Whenever I would get overwhelmed I would just take a day off, then I'd come back refreshed and be able to work harder than if I'd just kept working."

Along with her artwork, she enjoys running and walking around watching the scenery. Denny also enjoys rock and modern jazz music.
