Fairfield, Warsaw claim tennis regional crowns

The Fairfield and Warsaw girls tennis teams are semistate bound.

The Falcons and the Tigers each claimed regional titles Wednesday night.

Fairfield blanked Westview 5-0 to claim the Northridge Regional championship in a match moved indoors to the Eastlake Athletic Club in Elkhart due to the weather.

Warsaw turned back Peru 3-2 in the title tilt of the Culver Academy Regional.

Fairfield advances to play either Delta or Alexandria in the Homestead Semistate at 10 a.m. Saturday. Delta will play Alexandria in the final of the Marion Regional Thursday night.

Warsaw will face No. 5 South Bend Saint Joseph back at Culver Academy at noon on Saturday. Saint Joseph beat Chesterton 4-1 to win the LaPorte Regional title Wednesday night.

The semistate winners advance to the State Finals, which begin with quarterfinal play June 3 in Indianapolis. The semifinals and final are on June 4.

Fairfield rolled to its regional crown with five straight set wins. Star sophomore Addison Mast led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles for coach Mike Filbrun's squad.

The Falcons, who lost in the regional final to Northridge in 2021, won the program's fourth regional title and first since 2015.

Fairfield is now 16-1 on the season.

Warsaw won on two singles courts and one doubles match to claim the program's first regional title since 2017.

Addie Lind won 7-5, 7-5 at No. 1 singles to pace the Tigers to the championship.

At Northridge Regional

SINGLES: 1. Addison Mast beat Paige Riegsecker 6-0, 6-0. 2. Faith Bontrager beat Maddie Stults 7-5, 6-1. 3. Elyse Yoder beat Bailey Kenner 6-2, 6-0.

DOUBLES: 1. Abigail Gall-Ella Branneman beat Ava Brown-Ella Clark 6-2, 6-4. 2. Iris Miller-Kate McGuire beat Ella Yoder/Kamryn Miller 6-0, 6-0.

Individual singles sectionals: Northridge’s Lilah Dean advances to the individual regionals since Paige Riegsecker lost.

Individual doubles regionals: Emery Porter-Amy Adams (NorthWood) beat Gracie Westlake/Kate Steele (Concord), 6-4, 6-4 Wednesday. They will play Ava Harris and Brea Harris from Angola in the individual doubles sectional championship Thursday at Northridge High School.

WARSAW 3, PERU 2

At Culver Academy Regional

SINGLES: Addie Lind (W) beat Mackey Hyde 7-5, 7-5. 2 Lauren Boyer (P) beat Abby Nicholas 6-2, 6-1. 3. Regan Brouwer (1W) beat Kara Baker 6-3, 6-1.

DOUBLES: 1. Marie Frazzetta-Megan Mishler (W) beat Emma Eldridge-Cate Wolfe 6-2, 6-3. 2. Casidy Bartel-Libby Rogers (P) beat Kennedy Weideman-Avery Landwerlen 6-4, 6-4.
