Fairfield's new finance director is another former Butler County employee
FAIRFIELD, Ohio – For the third time this year, a Butler County employee is leaving their job to work for the city of Fairfield.
Christopher Hacker joins the city Oct. 31 as its finance director, replacing Jacob Burton, who left the city in August to become Monroe’s finance director. Hacker will be paid $115,000 annually.
He joins Scott Timmer, formerly the assistant county administrator for Butler County who now serves as Fairfield's city manager, and Laura Murphy, who left her job as Butler County human resources director in June to become Fairfield’s assistant city manager.
Hacker was one of 18 applicants for the finance director position and one of five interviewed for the job.
“Chris brings the right mix of innovation, creativity, and discipline to the city’s Finance Department,’’ said Timmer. “Being familiar with Chris’ work both professionally and as a volunteer has allowed me to see the dedication and tenacity in which he tackles anything that comes his way.”
A Hamilton resident, Hacker took over as treasurer of Operation Pumpkin, billed as Butler County's largest festival, from Timmer in 2019. They worked together to ensure a smooth transition.
“He has done a tremendous job for that volunteer-led organization,’’ Timmer said.
Hacker’s presence and work as director of assets, procurement and projects will be missed at the county, said Judi Boyko, Butler County’s administrator.
“Chris has contributed realty to Butler County during his short tenure. His work ethic, resourcefulness, character and pleasant demeanor have all been wonderful additions to the team,” Boyko said. “I am very fond of Chris and am saddened to lose him and the contributions he made to advance the organization.”
Timmer and Hacker’s paths crossed again when Timmer joined Butler County as its assistant county administrator in July, 2021. He left that position last February when he returned to Fairfield as city manager.
“I am excited to transition back to local government as I enjoy being on the front lines and engaged with the community,’’ Hacker said.
Before joining Butler County, Hacker worked in the finance departments at Hamilton and Centerville. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Northwestern Ohio and a bachelor’s from Miami University.
