Fairhaven Acushnet Youth Baseball captures Cal Ripken 12U state championship
Fairhaven Acushnet Youth Baseball beat Arlington 5-2 on Saturday morning at Pope Park to capture the Cal Ripken 12U State Championship.
Fairhaven Acushnet advances to the regional tournament this coming weekend in New Milford, Connecticut.
The hosts went 3-0 in pool play to lock up the No. 1 seed and a bye in the playoffs.
In the state semifinals, Fairhaven Acushnet beat Newburyport 8-4 behind a strong pitching performance from Dorian Fortes.
Mike Tomkiewicz’s two-run home run powered the offense.
In the championship game, Quinn Brightman’s game-winning RBI single drove in Jackson Williams for a 3-2 lead.
Williams was named the Player of the Game as he scored the game-winning run and was the winning pitcher in relief of Gavin Bourgeois. Williams finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
The win wrapped up back-to-back state titles for Fairhaven Acushnet.
Other local teams in the Cal Ripken 12U state tournament included Freetown Lakeville and Old Rochester.
