Fairport Harbor Public Library Board has seat open

Oct. 15—Fairport Harbor Public Library is seeking applicants for a seat on the library's Board of Trustees.

The person selected would fill the remainder of a term that has opened due to a resignation, according to a news release. The term expires Dec. 31, 2026, covering the final two years of the original seven-year term.

A library trustee is a volunteer position that requires attendance at monthly meetings, various committee assignments, and a commitment to the continued success of the Fairport Harbor Public Library, the release stated.

A trustee must be at least 18 years of age, a registered voter, and a resident of Lake County.

Attendance is required at trustee meetings held monthly on the second Tuesday at 5:30 pm at the library.

Fairport Harbor Public Library has been a member of the CLEVNET consortium since 1997 and celebrated its centennial in 2022.

The library provides services to the community and the Fairport Harbor School District. It will be a part of the new school district building slated to open in 2025.

All library trustees serve without compensation, the release stated. Trustees are expected to participate in community affairs, actively use the library and its resources, and be a powerful advocate and supporter of the library.

Every member is required to lend their time, experience, knowledge, and energy to the growth and success of the library, according to the release.

Applicants should submit an application for appointment to the Board of Trustees which will include a current resume, place of residence, length of time at current address, reason for interest in serving on the library board, community involvement, education, work, and service experience, and names and contact information of three references.

The deadline for first consideration of applications is Dec. 8.

Applications will be reviewed by the Library Board and the selected individual will be recommended to the Fairport Harbor School Board which will then appoint a trustee no later than Feb. 14.

The new trustee would begin immediately upon appointment.
