Fairport Harbor Schools receives Ohio Auditor of State Award

Aug. 27—Fairport Harbor School District has earned the Ohio Auditor of State Award for excellence in financial reporting.

The school district qualified for the honor after an examination of the district's financial records by the Ohio Auditor's Office for fiscal year 2022 resulted in a clean audit report.

This award certifies that:

—Fairport Harbor Schools filed financial reports by the statutory deadlines and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

—The district's audit report does not contain any findings for recovery (money that needs to be repaid), material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, single audit findings or questioned costs.

—A management letter from the auditor that accompanied the audit report contained no comments related to areas that include ethics referrals; lack of timely report submission; bank reconciliation issues; findings for recovery of less than $500; or public meetings or record issues.

—Fairport Harbor Schools had no additional financial or other relevant concerns noted by the auditors.

The award was given to Fairport Harbor Schools during a brief ceremony at the Aug. 22 School Board meeting.

Kathryn Semo, northeast regional liaison for Ohio Auditor Keith Faber, presented the accolade to school district Treasurer Sherry Williamson.

Superintendent William Billington said the district is very proud of the efforts by Williamson and her team that secured the honor.

"This award just reconfirms what the Board of Education and school community already knew about the hard work, attention to detail and fiscal responsibility of our Treasurer's Office," he said.
