Fairrow, Kilpatrick, Franks shine in Beast of the Beach

FORT WALTON BEACH — While an area team failed to win the 2021 Beast of the Beach, the lauded wrestling tournament once again delivered the storylines.

Fort Walton Beach and Crestview shined Monday to advance to the winners bracket.

Niceville went 3-0 Tuesday and defeated Brusly 48-36 to win the Best of the Rest bracket.

Fort Walton's Cedric Fairrow affirmed why he's the No. 1-ranked wrestler at 220 pounds in Florida with a 10-0 record, while Choctaw's Deagan Kilpatrick went 9-0 in the 113-pound weight class and Crestview's Layne Franks went 6-0 in the 170-pound class.

From two days of wrestling from the 24-squad field emerged a healthy barometer of where teams are at.

For the host Vikings — fresh off a pair of fourth-place finishes in the opening two tournaments — Spencer Mackenzie (285 pounds) and Zak Vosburgh (113) both went 8-2 to accent Fairrow's flawless tournament. Marquis Muniz (160) went 9-3, Daruis Brundidge (170) went 9-4 and Alexander Davidson (152) went 8-3. Steven Banfield (145) went 8-4, Landon Burbidge (106) went 6-4 and Carter Tobik (182), Santiago Mayic (120) and Braxton Beard each went 5-4.
