LAS CRUCES – Las Crucens have a lot of events to choose from this weekend. Here are a few things going on in the community this fall weekend.

Southern New Mexico State Fair & Rodeo

Doña Ana County’s fair returns Wednesday for five days of carnival and rodeo fun. Head over to the Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds, located at 12125 Robert Larson Blvd. off Interstate 10. The fairground gates open at 9 a.m. each day and close at 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, at midnight Friday and Saturday and at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children 7 to 14 and children 6 and under are admitted for free. Tickets can be found online at snmstatefairgrounds.net.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

New Mexico is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta for nine days beginning Oct. 1. Take in mass balloon ascensions, balloon glows, aerial shows and more up north.

The Balloon Fiesta Park is located at 9401 Balloon Fiesta Parkway NE. Tickets are $15 per session for people 12 and up, children under 12 are admitted for free. Tickets are available for purchase online at balloonfiesta.com.

Here's what to know before heading to the 50th Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

Mesilla Valley Jazz and Blues Society’s 20th Jazz Happening

On Oct. 1 and 2, jazz music will take over the Plaza de Mesilla for the 20th Jazz Happening. Local ensembles as well as internationally-know musicians will perform throughout the weekend. Border Jazz Orchestra will perform Saturday evening at the Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St., for the festival concert at 8 p.m.

Tickets for Saturday night’s concert are $15 and available for purchase online at www.riograndetheatre.org.

Nichols Ranch & Orchards Apple Festival

Nichols Ranch & Orchards in La Luz, 236 Cottonwood Canyon Road, is hosting its second Apple Festival Oct. 1 and 2. Head over to Otero County for apple-picking of various varieties, live music, food and drink vendors, Runyan Ranches petting zoo and more.

The orchards will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased online at www.eventbrite.com/e/2022-nichols-ranch-second-annual-apple-festival-tickets.

'Steel Magnolias' at Las Cruces Community Theatre

The Las Cruces Community Theatre begins presenting “Steel Magnolias” Friday, Sept. 30 and lasting through Oct. 16. The classic southern drama will feature the audience’s favorite characters, Truvy, Annelle, Ouiser, Clairee, M’Lynn and Shelby. Greg Thompson is the director.

Evening performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and a Sunday matinee performance is at 2 p.m. at the community theatre, 313 N. Main St. Tickets are $17 for adults, $10 for children and $14 for seniors, students and active members of the military. They can be purchased online at www.lcctnm.org.

'The Glass Menagerie' at Black Box Theatre

Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie” will be performed over the weekend by the No Strings Theatre Company, directed by Joshua Taulbee. Performances are at the Black Box Theatre, 430 N. Main St., at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday with a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Sunday.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased online at no-strings.org.

Fall Fiesta and LGBTQ Pride in Doña Ana Village

Doña Ana Village Association is holding its Fall Fiesta from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1 in the historic village, 135 Joe Gutierrez St. Live music, vendors and community resources will all be available for attendees. Pride Week will also be celebrated at the fiesta, in conjunction with multiple other Pride events being held throughout the area.

Southern New Mexico Pride Celebration 2022

This year’s annual Southern New Mexico Pride Celebration will kickoff with a Pride March at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 on the Plaza de Las Cruces, 100 N. Main St. A full celebration on the plaza will follow through 10 p.m. with vendors, live music, entertainment and more. This event is free, family-friendly and open to the public.

Allen Theatre’s Free Fall Break Series

Moviegoers can catch free showings of “Corpse Bride” and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” at Cineport 10, 700 S. Telshor Blvd. Showings of “Corpse Bride” are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., 3:45 p.m. and 8 p.m. each day Sept. 30 to Oct. 6.

Showings of “Journey 2” are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. each day from Sept. 30 through Oct. 6 as well.

Korean and Vietnam Veterans Honor Flight

Local Korean and Vietnam Veterans will return to Las Cruces Saturday, Oct. 1 following an honor flight to Washington D.C. Members of the community are invited to meet at Memorial Medical Center, 2450 S. Telshor Blvd., to give them the proper welcome home they deserve.

About 5:30 p.m. Saturday veterans will be welcomed at the El Paso International Airport where they will then load onto a bus and travel west on Interstate 10 to Las Cruces. At about 7:45 p.m., the bus will turn into the parking lot of Memorial Medical Center where more members of the community will be waiting to meet them.
