Fairview, McDowell divers sweep top spots at D-10 meet. Here's who advanced to states

Fairview's Elena Veres and Katie George cited the various opponents who pushed them to perform better after Friday's District 10 girls diving meet.

Not done there, though, the duo also glanced at each other's attempts for inspiration.

“We've been friends for years, so we've always had that healthy competition,” Veres said. “I think that paid off all season long.”

It's a season that won't conclude for Veres and George until March 15, the opening day of the four-day PIAA swimming and diving meet. They'll represent the district in that day's Class 2A girls springboard competition at Lewisburg's Bucknell University.

Fairview's Elena Veres competes in the girls District 10 Class 2A diving championships at McDowell High School in Millcreek Township on Feb. 24, 2023. Veres won the event with 255.25 points.

“I want to thank our coach (Diane MacWilliams) for this because she puts in so much time and effort with us when she definitely doesn't have to,” George said. “We really appreciate that.”

Only the district's Class 3A girls champion qualified for states. That winner was McDowell's Anna Rosswog, whose competition consisted of teammate Avery Marshall.

The Tigers' Aari Fox, Corry's Aiden Knapp and Cathedral Prep's Teddy Terrizzi went into Saturday's 2A boys meet at McDowell aware they were assured of receiving the district's three PIAA berths.
