Faith Time: Being a good person

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Joining us this morning is Bert Park with Government Street United Methodist Church. This is a big topic. How does a Christian become a better person? What are our life’s values? How how do we follow them?

Guest: I’ve mentioned before about the fruits of the spirit. Those are values that you take. But I think the real question for people is, okay, I know about this Holy Spirit thing, but how do I communicate with God? How do I really communicate with God? Let me show you a simple way.

First of all, you need a study Bible with a large concordance. Concordance is at the back of the Bible, and it lists every time a word is listed in Scripture that’s listed in the back. Okay, so let’s say you’ve got a problem. You’ve got something that’s on your mind. You want to want to break it down. I mentioned spiritual gifts.

There are 12 listings for gifts. And in my concordance, with my NIV Bible, there are over 100 spiritual gifts. Okay, well, gosh, that’s quite a lot. But I want you to take I want you to read through every one of those scriptures. One or two of those are going to speak to you. Read those aloud because it is the living word, but read those aloud, then meditate on that and pray.

And then you connect with Jesus through Christ to God on that. That’s how you connect with the Holy Spirit.

Anchor: How do you how do we know that we’re on the right path when we’re doing that? How do we know we’re getting the answers from God that we’re on the right way to go?

Guest: Well, again, it’s affirmation. The affirmation you receive from other people you interact with. But don’t think that your prayers are answered right away. We all get so discouraged by that God has his own time. He sees time and past, present and future, which you and I don’t have that gift.
