Falcon track teams finish in second place

The Constantine track and field teams each placed second at the SAC Championships held on Tuesday. Constantine was the host school for the event, which saw the Schoolcraft girls and Saugatuck boys claim conference titles.

In the boys’ event, Saugatuck posted 103 points, finishing ahead of Constantine’s 86. Kalamazoo Hackett came in third place at 70 followed by Delton-Kellogg with 64 and Parchment with 58.

Schoolcraft’s 84 narrowly beat Constantine’s 82 in the girls’ event. Saugatuck was third with 72 followed by Kalamazoo Christian with 68 and Delton-Kellogg with 47.

The mile relay took home first place for the Constantine boys. The team of Julian Hawthorne, Ethan Glick, Isaac Moore and Collin Featherstone paced the field with a time of 3:32.39.

James Sailor finished second overall in the high jump at 5-10, Brody Jones was third in the pole vault at 11-feet.

In discus action, Bennett VandenBerg came in third position at 140-2.5 feet.

Constantine’s two-mile relay team placed fourth. Hawthorne, Glick, Moore and Featherstone ran that event in a time of 8:49.63.

Both of Constantine’s other relays finished in the top five spots.

The 800 relay of Brayden Clark, Charles Morris, Donovan Miller and Dean Topolski came in second. They ran a time of 1:34.30. The team of Clark, Chase Bates, Michael Featherstone and VandenBerg raced to fifth place in the 400 relay, they posted a time of 47.50 seconds.

Hawthorne ran to fourth place in the 800, he clocked a time of 2:08.37. Collin Featherstone was right behind him in fifth place at 2:09.35.

Topolski ran to second place in the 400, he had a time of 51.99 seconds. Morris was third at 52.32 seconds in that event.

For the girls, the mile relay also took home first place.

The team of Abigail Flores, Cami McMillin, Natalie Whitaker and Riley Smith ran a time of 4:29.44 to claim first place.

Flores was third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 53.06 seconds. She claimed fifth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.50 seconds. Smith came in fifth in the 300 hurdles at 54.90.

Constantine’s 800 relay team was fourth. Irene Lopez-Gasco, Smith, Jessica Ambs and Angelyna Hendrix posted a time of 2:00.43 for that race.

The two-mile relay came came in second overall. Kylie Ross, McMillin, Whitaker and Smith posted a time of 11:14.67 in that one.

Lilly Stears was top three in both throwing events. She claimed second place overall in the discus at 103-3 and was third in the shot put at 35-5.5 feet. Caterina Thelen came in fourth position in the shot put at 32-9, Bo Geibe finished fifth at 31-2.

Thelen finished fifth in the discus event at 88-3. She was also third overall at 7-6.

McMillin placed second overall in the high jump at 4-9.
