Fall 2024: School begins in early August, 1st semester exams done before Christmas
The Beaufort County School District approved major changes to the 2024 and 2025 calendar and the first two things to know are: school will start in early August and the first semester will be completed before the winter recess.
With the first semester calendar beginning on Wednesday Aug. 7, the second semester will be completed by May 29 giving students all of June and July to enjoy their summer break. Both semesters will be 90 days. The last day of school will be May 29 meaning students will have the entirety of June and July in their summer breaks.
Teachers will begin their school year a little earlier as the preparation workdays will begin July 31.
Here are the other key dates:
Thanksgiving break will run Nov. 27-Dec. 1
Winter Break will start on Dec 23 and run until Jan. 8.
Spring Break will be the week of April 14-18
Schools will be closed for Labor Day, Election Day, Veteran’s Day, MLK Day, President’s Day, Good Friday and Memorial Day.
The district has planned three weather makeup days in case of unforeseen weather events like a hurricane. These days are planned for Dec. 23, Jan 6 and March 17
Teacher workdays will take place July 31-Aug. 6; Jan. 7, Feb. 14; and May 30-June 3.
There will be three half days in the school year, Oct. 9, Feb. 13 and March 14.
The school board also approved the calendar for the 2025-2026 school year. While specific dates for holidays will vary, the layout of the school year will remain the same.
