Fall fun in the Lower Hudson Valley: Your guide to the season's best

Looking for weekend plans? The Hudson Valley is full of exciting events during the fall season. From Oktoberfest to haunted houses and hayrides, here are some of the best local events this month.

What's happening in the Hudson Valley this fall?

  • Sleepy Hollow will host their annual Glass Pumpkin Fundraiser from Oct. 6 to Oct. 9 at Kingsland Point Park. Artists from the Adirondack Glassblowing Studio in North Creek will sell hundreds of hand-blown glass pumpkins to raise money for Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley. The event is free for all visitors.   • Sleepy Hollow has a new, terrifying haunted attraction. The Horsemen: Terror Lies in Chaos is the first haunted house in Sleepy Hollow since 2019. It will be open at the Katherine Davis Bath House in Kingsland Point Park. The haunted house runs from Oct. 6 to Nov. 5. The attraction is open Thursday to Sunday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Psycho Clan, a group known for their immersive horror experiences, like "Nightmare Haunted House" in Manhattan, creates a "nightmarish" hospital-scape as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse spook the daylights out of audiences. Tickets start at $40. Thursdays are "Local's Nights" for Sleepy Hollow residents.   • The New York Renaissance Fair is open until Oct. 8. Step right into the Middle Ages from your backyard. With a turkey leg in hand, visitors can enjoy live performances, interactive games and even a jousting tournament. Tickets are $42 for adults, $37 for seniors and $18 for children ages 5-12.   • Nyack's Phoenix Arts Festival starts its second year Sept. 28 through Oct. 21. This year, the festival will include indoor and outdoor performances of plays, poems, live music and dance, including the notable Children's Shakespeare Company and Rockland Poets. Times and locations vary based on event.

  • Chow down in New York's spookiest town on Friday the 13th. Sleepy Hollow's Frightening Food Truck Friday is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13 at the new Riverwalk Park. Live music, food trucks, vendors and a visit from the Hudson Valley's own Headless Horseman is included. Costumes are welcome! 266 Palmer Ave., Sleepy Hollow

  • Jacob Burns Film Center will screen Halloween classics Coraline and Coco on Oct. 14 and Oct. 28, both at 11:30 a.m. The Coraline screening on Oct. 14 includes a clay sculpture activity and the Coco screening on Oct. 28 includes themed art activities. The Film Center will host a 12 hour horror movie marathon for teens and adults from Friday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. to Saturday, Oct. 28 at 8 a.m.

  • ArtsRock is launching its 15th performance season on Oct. 14. with Nyack bandleader Stephen Bernstein and his Millennial Territory Orchestra at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $30. First Reformed Church, 18 South Broadway, Nyack. On Nov. 5, ArtsRock's own theater group Milk and Cookies Playhouse will perform a shadow play of Camille Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals and Hans Christian Andersen's Emperor's New Clothes.   • Caramoor will host its third annual Day of the Dead celebration on Oct. 15. The Calpulli Mexican Dance Company from Jackson Heights, Queens, will perform traditional Mexican dances to live music. There also will be arts and crafts and storytelling events available to the community. The event is at 3 p.m. and admission is free. 149 Girdle Ridge Rd., Katonah.

  • Rivertown SUP Yoga is hosting a Stand Up Paddleboard Witches Paddle at Horan's Landing on Oct. 15 from 12 to 6 p.m. Witches and warlocks of all ages can paddle on the water while listening to "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" or those who are landbound can enjoy vendors, live music and spooky treats. Those who want to paddle must register ahead of the event. Bring your own board and costumes! Rain date is Oct. 22. 57 River St., Sleepy Hollow

  • More fall fun in Sleepy Hollow! The town's annual block party is from Oct. 20 to Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. Families can ride the haunted hayride from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The block party includes local vendors, food, music refreshments and bouncy castles. Only Tarrytown School District students can purchase hayride tickets for $20 at Sleepy Hollow Village Hall.   • The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is getting the circus treatment for the second year in a row. The Legend Cirque performs Thursdays through Sundays until Oct. 29. Tickets start at $45 ringside and $40 on the center risers and on the sides. Showtime is 90 minutes with a 15-intermission. The minimum recommended age for attending is 10 years old. Thursday and Friday shows start at 7 p.m. and weekend shows are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. 60 Continental Street.

  • The Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze will light up the night at the historic Van Cortlandt Manor until Nov. 15. Over 7,000 pumpkins are carved into elaborate sculptures that range from New York cityscapes to Colonial Sleepy Hollow scenes. Tickets are $37 for adults, $36 for seniors and $29 for children. Ages under 3 are free. Tickets are selling out fast, especially for weekends, so be sure to get tickets online as soon as possible.
