Fall in love with autumn colors with this walking tree tour

Experience the joy of autumn by joining "The Sweetest Trees: A Sweetest Day Celebration in the Forest," walking tour from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 21 at Columbus County Park.

This family-friendly event will take people on a walking tour featuring the fantastic fall colors that Columbus County Park has to offer. In addition to the tour, people can learn the basics of tree identification, learn more about a potential community maple sugaring project and sample sweet maple treats during the walk.

Columbus County Park is located at 1670 Bauman Road in Columbus Township.

The event is free and does not require registration. People who wish to attend are asked to meet at the park's lodge at 10 a.m. Free parking and restrooms are available at the lodge.

Columbus County Park features upland and lowland plant and wildlife habitats, a great diversity of Michigan native trees and the Belle River.

"Sweetest Day is a great time of year for a nature walk, and we’re excited to hear what you and your family love about trees and forests," said Kirsten Lyons, St. Clair County Parks Naturalist- Invasive Species Specialist said in a press release.

Optional items to bring are binoculars, a hand lens, insect repellent and field guides. People should dress for the weather and muddy, wet terrain. Any updated information about the event in case of severe weather can be found on the St. Clair County Parks and Recreation Facebook page.

This event also qualifies for two Extension Master Gardener education hours.
