Fall movies: Lineup includes James Bond, Wonder Woman and more

It’s a weird year for movies, as many theatrical premieres have been postponed or canceled amid the coronavirus pandemic. But there’s a lot to look forward to this fall, whether it’s in theaters or from your home on-demand or via Amazon Prime Video or Netflix. Here are a few films coming out this fall.

‘Greenland’

Release: Sept. 25 in theaters

Premise: A family fights for survival as a comet races toward Earth.

‘The Boys in the Band’

Release: Sept. 30 on Netflix

Premise: A group of gay men gather for a birthday party in 1968 New York City, only to find the drinks and laughs interrupted when a visitor from the host’s past turns the evening upside down. Based on a play by Mart Crowley.

‘Wonder Woman 1984’

Release: Oct. 2 in theaters

Premise: Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman faces two new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah.

‘Blackbox’

Release: Oct. 6 on Amazon Prime Video

Premise: After losing his wife and his memory in a car accident, a single father undergoes an experimental treatment that causes him to question his identity.

‘The Lie’

Release: Oct. 6 on Amazon Prime Video

Premise: When their teenage daughter confesses to killing her best friend, two parents attempt to cover up the crime, leading them into a web of lies and deception.

‘The Forty-Year-Old Version’

Release: Oct. 9 on Netflix

Premise: The film follows a down-on-her-luck New York playwright as she vacillates between the worlds of Hip Hop and theater on a quest to find her true voice.

‘Evil Eye’

Release: Oct. 13 on Amazon Prime Video

Premise: A seemingly perfect romance turns into a nightmare when a mother becomes convinced her daughter’s new boyfriend has a dark connection to her past.

‘Nocturne’

Release: Oct. 13 on Amazon Prime Video

Premise: Inside an elite arts academy, a timid music student begins to outshine her more accomplished and outgoing twin sister when she discovers a mysterious notebook belonging to a recently deceased classmate.

‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’

Release: Oct. 16 on Netflix

Premise: What was intended to be a peaceful protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention turned into a violent clash with police and the National Guard. The organizers of the protest were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was notorious.

‘Rebecca’

Release: Oct. 21 on Netflix

Premise: Based on a book of the same name, “Rebecca” tells the story of a young newlywed who arrives at her husband’s imposing family estate, battling the shadow of his first wife, Rebecca.

‘Death on the Nile’

Release: Oct. 23 in theaters

Premise: Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot’s Egyptian vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer turns into a terrifying search for a murderer when a picture-perfect couple’s honeymoon is cut short.

‘Fatale’

Release: Oct. 30 in theaters

Premise: Successful sports agent Darren (Michael Ealy) watches his perfect life disappear when he becomes entangled in a police investigation led by a discredited, disgraced and determined detective (Hilary Swank), with whom he had a wild one-night stand, in this psychological thriller.

‘Black Widow’

Release: Nov. 6 in theaters

Premise: Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow in Marvel Studios’ spy thriller “Black Widow.”

‘The Climb’

Release: Nov. 13 in theaters

Premise: Kyle and Mike are best friends who share a close bond — until Mike sleeps with Kyle’s fiancée.

‘No Time to Die’

Release: Nov. 20 in theaters

Premise: James Bond has left active service, but his peace is short-lived when an old friend from the CIA asks for help, leading Bond onto the trail of a villain armed with dangerous, new technology.

‘Soul’

Release: Nov. 20 in theaters

Premise: A middle school band teacher who has lost his passion for music is transported out of his body and must find his way back with the help of an infant soul learning about herself.

‘Happiest Season’

Release: Nov. 25 in theaters

Premise: Meeting your girlfriend’s family for the first time can be tough, but it’s even harder when you plan to propose to her when they don’t know she’s gay.

‘Voyagers’

Release: Nov. 25 in theaters

Premise: In this sci-fi thriller, a group of young men and women bred for intelligence and obedience embark on an expedition to colonize a distant planet. But when they uncover disturbing secrets about the mission, they defy their training and explore their primitive natures.

‘Free Guy’

Release: Dec. 11 in theaters

Premise: A bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game decides to become the hero of his own story.

‘Coming 2 America’

Release: Dec. 18 in theaters

Premise: In this sequel to the 1988 comedy “Coming to America,” Akeem learns he has a long-lost son in the United States and must return to America to meet the unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.

‘West Side Story’

Release: Dec. 18 in theaters

Premise: This reimagined take on the musical tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City.
