Fall in Myrtle Beach: Here’s what you have to look forward to
It’s almost time to say goodbye to the Myrtle Beach tourists! While our beloved beach town is the most popular during the summer months, that does not mean the autumn months are dull. Whether its festivals or casual activities fit for mild weather you’re looking for, you’ll be happy to be in the area this fall.
Fun fall festivals in Horry County
1. Aynor Harvest Hoe-Down Festival
When: Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Aynor Town Park, 600 South Main Street in Aynor
This will be the 42nd annual Hoe-Down, according to its website. There will be children’s entertainment, arts, crafts, food and music.
2. Surfside Beach Family Festival
When: Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Surfside Drive in Surfside Beach
This event, according to the town’s website, will happen rain or shine. There will be two stages with live entertainment and of course, plenty of food and fun for kids.
3. Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival
When: Sept. 23-25, 2022. On Friday, it will go from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.. On Saturday and Sunday, it will go from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..
Where: Huntington Beach State Park, 16148 Ocean Highway in Murrell’s Inlet
This autumn event is for art-lovers. There is an admission fee of $10 per person 16 and older. According to the South Carolina State Parks website, there will be over 100 artisans present and visitors can enjoy “fine art, quality crafts and local food, along with the musical offerings of several of the area’s finest musicians.”
4. Irish Italian International Festival
When: Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Maine Street in North Myrtle Beach
This festival will have all the typical festive activities, but what sets this one apart is the spaghetti eating contest! Interested parties can sign up any time from the start of the festival until noon.
When: Oct. 8-9, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Historic Little River Waterfront, 4468 Mineola Avenue in Little River
This will be the 17th annual Little River ShrimpFest. “Festival goers can expect to enjoy 2 stages of live music, stilt walkers, balloon artists, and more than 100 different vendors- including a variety of art and craft vendors, business expos, and community organizations. Shrimp and fresh local seafood will be served by the local waterfront restaurants and your festival food favorites will be available from a variety of talented food vendors,” the website read.
When: Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Main Street in Loris
This festival is thrown by the Loris Chamber of Commerce. According to the Visit Myrtle Beach website, “The festival will feature a chicken bog cooking contest, two stages of entertainment, car show, arts and craft vendors, plenty of chicken bog and a whole lot of fun!”

If you’re not one for festivals, there are other fun things to do.
For adults, the Twelve33Distillery in Little River is releasing the Drunkin Punkin, which is a pumpkin spice cream liqueur. According to their website, this drink will be released on Aug. 28 in preparation for the upcoming season.
If fall is your favorite season because of football, the Pro Football Hall of Fame at Broadway at the Beach is the place to be. Ticket prices vary by age or if one is in the military.
Fall weather is certainly comfortable here in the south. If you want to enjoy the weather, both Freewoods Farm and Thompson Farm at Brickyard Plantation will need harvesting help. Freewood is planning a syrup event and Thompson has corn mazes. These activities are still in the planning stages. Check their websites for updates!
