How Fall River is celebrating the Fourth

And right around the corner is Fourth of July weekend. Fall River's annual celebration of America will include music and food trucks before capping off with fireworks over the Taunton River. Mayor Paul Coogan said the event made a welcome return last year after some time off due to the COVID pandemic, and this year’s event looks to be even more spectacular. Summertime fun means amusement parks! And for nearly a century, one of the Southcoast’s biggest and best summer attractions was Lincoln Park, the home of “fun for all the family.” But how did Lincoln Park grow from a simple pine grove into a summer hotspot? And in other news, a New Hampshire corporation proposing a 346-unit housing project on Weaver Street is seeking a number of variances from the Zoning Board of Appeals. But the Preservation Society of Fall River opposes the plan, saying the proposed 14-story, 160-foot-tall structure doesn’t fit into the city’s future plans for historic waterfront development.
