Fall River warming centers open Saturday; Christ the Rock to be shelter for rest of winter
FALL RIVER — Several warming centers will be open in the city on Saturday, Jan. 22, as temperatures will be below freezing throughout the day.
The First Step Inn, 134 Durfee St., and the Timao Center, Fall River's overflow homeless shelter at 371 Bay St., are prepared to accommodate anyone in need of shelter.
Those seeking services should contact the First Step Inn by calling 508-679-8001 or 508-974-9972.
A temporary, drop-in warming shelter will also be open at Christ the Rock Assembly of God Church, 414 Rock St., from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30pm.
After 3:30pm, the city’s overflow shelter will be open and all residents at the warming center will be given assistance in accessing overnight shelter.
The location at Christ the Rock Assembly of God Church will be used for all of the city’s temporary warming shelters for the rest of the winter, on any days with anticipated temperatures below 30 degrees.
Residents can check the City of Fall River Facebook page or call the Mayor’s Office at 508-324-2600 for updates to confirm, but the center on Rock Street plans to be open on all days with temperatures below 30 degrees.
On Saturday, Accuweather.com is predicting that Fall River will reach a high of 28 degrees, with the overnight low dropping down to 20 degrees. Sunday is only expected to be slightly warmer, with temperatures hovering in the low 30s.
