Fall River's first Chick-fil-A is finally open — and here's how the first day went

FALL RIVER — Cars wrapped around the building and the restaurant overflowed with customers as the city’s first Chick-fil-A location opened on Wednesday.

“We love Chick-fil-A, so we were pretty excited,” (to hear they were opening) said Serenity Cabral of Fall River, who came to the grand opening with a friend. “Their shakes are the best.”

The new restaurant is located at 700 William S. Canning Blvd., in the SouthCoast Marketplace shopping center, near the Market Basket and Picture Show movie theater.

On Wednesday afternoon, both lanes of the restaurant’s double drive-thru had long lines, the indoor seating area was nearly full and a steady stream of customers came inside to pick up mobile orders placed ahead of time. A massive inflatable cow with a sign reading “eat mor chikin,” the chain’s mascot, sat on the roof where it could be seen from the nearby highway.

The new store is the business’s first in Fall River. The next closest is in Seekonk, then Attleboro.

“It’s way more convenient now that it’s in the city,” Cabral said.

The restaurant is still hiring and will ultimately employ about 130 people.
