El gurú de la belleza y estilista de las estrellas Oribe Canales ha fallecido a los 62 años. Se desconoce la causa de la muerte del peluquero de origen cubano que se codeó con grandes celebridades, diseñadores y personalidades del ambiente artístico. Él también tuvo mucho éxito con sus salones de belleza y la línea de productos Oribe Hair Care.

Oribe es considerado un pionero en muchos aspectos y uno de los mayores influyentes en la industria de la belleza y la moda. Él creó looks para desfiles que llegaron a robarle atención a la ropa que siendo mostrada en la pasarela.

El querendón de supermodelos y artistas como Jennifer Lopez y Rihanna inició su carrera casi por accidente. Él se mudó a Nueva York persiguiendo una carrera en la actuación. “Comencé a trabajar en una peluquería propiedad de mi amigo”, dijo a la revista People. “Vi que los peluqueros hacían mucho dinero y no parecía algo muy difícil”.

En 1991 él abrió su primer salón en Nueva York y en 1992 diseñó pelucas para las galerías del Instituto de Moda del Museo de Arte Metropolitano. Con frecuencia Gianni Versace lo volaba a Roma y Milán para que Oribe se encargara de los modelos de sus desfiles.

With a huge pain in my heart I have to say goodbye to my dear friend Oribe I have so , so much pain in my heart I can’t believe you are gone and i have to say goodbye to you my dearest friend Oribe , you left this world tonight at 11:54 pm , I can’t only say that I am completely devastated , I have known you since I was 18 years old , you were always such a wonderful friend to me and I have always been so proud of you and your talent but most of all you of your beautiful heart . Durante sus más de tres décadas de carrera Oribe trabajó con los más grandes nombres de la moda como Versace, Chanel y Calvin Klein, entre otros. Él colaboró con fotógrafos de alto perfil para publicaciones como Vogue y Glamour. A finales de los años 90 él comenzó a colaborar con celebridades que van desde Barbara Streisand a Lady Gaga.

Él creó varios looks para Jennifer Lopez cuando ella iniciaba su carrera hacia el estrellato. Ella misma lo llamó para que él le creara una imagen para su álbum “On the 6” y continuaron colaborando a lo largo de su carrera.

When I was 16 I was fascinated with Vogue magazine I would ride on the train and look at all the images of the supermodels and I was obsessed with the hair!! When I saw an image I loved I would check who did it and it was always someone named Oribe… Wow… he’s amazing I would think!! Cut to years later I was making my first album. I started working with Benny Medina and he said to me we have to do an album cover shoot who do you want for hair and makeup… honestly I was so new to the industry I knew no one and remembered my time flipping thru those magazines on the 6 and said ummm Oribe and Kevin Aucoin… Benny laughed and said oh OK! The next 10 years I would spend with Oribe by my side in every waking and working moment. We fell in love with each other. We traveled the world together. And along with Scott Barnes they helped me blossom into JLO. It was a magical and exhausting time…And when I was tired he would say to me… “You are gonna get up and go out there and be beautiful and fabulous bc that your job!!” We’d laugh bc that sounded crazy and then we would get to the business of doing our “job” !! He made me love the glam part of things. Bc he loved it so much and saw it as a powerful tool to empower women. He loved beauty and wanted women to feel beautiful and sexy. He loved the messiness and the imperfection and saw how interesting that was. He was a true artist. He made me feel special and beautiful for so long. I could go on and on but I will just say with a heavy heart… Thank you sweet, beautiful man… I will miss you. I love you Oribe… so much… 💔#latinolegend #artistextraordinaire #hairgod #familia

Los tributos a Oribe no se hicieron esperar e incluyeron a supermodelos como Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell y Cindy Crawford. Su amiga Leslie Lopez, una maquillista, colgó un post en el que indicó que la muerte fue al ras de la medianoche del domingo. Ella parece sugerir que fue una condición fulminante, ya que escribió que hace sólo ocho semanas él la sorprendió y la llevó a cenar y “te veías muy guapo y me hizo tan feliz que vinieras”.
