Falling ice from NYC Billionaires’ Row condo building injures motorist in Midtown

A chunk of falling ice from an 84-story “Billionaires’ Row” building in Manhattan injured a woman driving in Midtown on Friday night, police said.

The 35-year-old motorist was on W. 57th St. near Sixth Ave. at about 5:30 when the ice fell from the Steinway Tower, a 1,428-foot luxury building that contains condominiums priced in the tens of millions of dollars.

The ice chunk hit the woman’s car and struck her in the head, police said.

Medics took her to Mount Sinai West Hospital in stable condition.

FDNY units responded and declared the area safe just after 7 p.m. City Buildings Department inspectors were also sent to the scene.

The tower — which includes the old Steinway Hall building at its base — was completed in 2021, and is said to be the third-tallest building in the city.
